TIMBER LIMITLESS

  • Description

Promega HQ

Promega, headquartered in Madison, USA, has been manufacturing product and system solutions for gene, protein and cell analysis and pharmaceutical research since 1978. In 2019, a new UK Headquarters was completed on the University of Southampton Science Park. The characteristic roof structure is a combination of beams made of BauBuche and cross laminated timber.

“From the outset of the project the brief was to deliver a design that had a connection to nature and the environment. As a result, the use of a timber roof structure was explored. In conjunction with Eckersley O’Callaghan we were able to develop a design for the roof using BauBuche, which achieved a dynamic roof form with impressive spans maximizing the technology available using this material.”
– Joshua Reay, Senior Architect, ArchitecturePLB

The outstanding technical and aesthetic properties of BauBuche enabled the realisation of a lean and filigree supporting structure and large column-free spaces.

“With beams up to 20 m long we used the high strength properties of BauBuche to reduce timber section sizes. The finish quality is great and the colour and laminate works well.”
– Toby Ronalds, Director, Eckersley O’Callaghan
