In February of 2023, the official opening of Boola Katitjin took place at Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. This building is the largest mass engineered timber construction in Western Australia.
With a building floor area of 16,000 m² over four storeys, the new building on campus will accommodate up to 60% of Murdoch's teaching requirements. The particularly sustainable concept includes a photovoltaic system, natural ventilation throughout the building and a system for stormwater harvesting and reusing grey water. In addition, the world's most natural raw material - wood - was used for the construction. A total of 1,500 m³ of glulam was delivered including some of the largest glulam beams in all of Australia, measuring 26 m in length and weighing over 7 tonnes each.
