Lord’s Cricket Ground London

A new fascinating project in London

HESS TIMBER was contracted by Taiyo Europe GmbH to deliver the timber roof construction for the new “Warner Stand” of the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground Stadium. This cricket stadium in London is considered to be the most important and most historic address for cricket worldwide.

The ground established in 1814 is situated at the St. John’s Wood Road to the west of the Regent’s Park and can currently hold up to 28,000 spectators. The “Warner Stand”, initially completed in 1958, will now be replaced by a new and modern construction, designed by the architectural office Populous London in cooperation with the engineering office ARUP London.
The roof has a semi-translucent design with long cantilevered glulam beams made from American White Oak, that will be supplied by HESS TIMBER with pre-assembled steel parts. For the determination of the strength of this very special solution, comprehensive test series were executed internally at HESS TIMBER as well as in collaboration with an authorised material testing institute. This roof construction is unique in the whole world and also wants to explore the potential in timber construction by using hardwoods and show the new possibilities in this respect.

Markus Golinksi, Sales Director of HESS TIMBER, will present the project on the International Wood Construction Conference in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
