TIMBER LIMITLESS

  • Description

EnBW Charging park Chemnitz

One of the latest addition to Germany's largest fast-charging network, the EnBW HyperNet is the new EnBW fast charging park in Lichtenau, near Chemnitz. This site's roof structure is made of wood, which is a unique feature of the charging park.

The roof is approximately 24m x 12m and consists of rafters, purlins and A-shaped trestles. The trestles are fully pre-assembled at the factory, including cross-laminated timber panels with screw-press bonding and approximately 1.5m long glued-in threaded rods to transfer loads from the cross purlins. Additionally, the column base steel parts had to be pre-assembled with millimetre accuracy to fit 16 individually cast bolts on site. The cross purlins are block-bonded from four individual CNC cut beams.

The wooden rafters have been topped with steel profiles for the photovoltaic system. The PV system installed on the roof of the charging park generates electricity directly for the electric cars, which can be charged at 16 HPC (High Power Charging) points located under the roof, as well as 8 additional points on site. If required, the charging park can be expanded in the future to 32 HPC charging points, each with a charging capacity of 400 kilowatts.

HESS TIMBER was responsible for an extended performance range for this project. In addition to the timber construction with installation, this included the photovoltaic system and its electrical installation, as well as parapet cladding and illuminated advertising. These subsections were awarded to subcontractors.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their co-operation. Of course, this also applies to the contributing production sites of the HASSLACHER Group.
